Dave - you make the Bach pieces dance the way they're supposed to do!
...Dave Camwell's second solo recording is a beautiful and powerful recording. It is tremendously well performed and each of the works selected provide a great opportunity for all saxophonists to hear wonderful arrangements of the works of Bach for the saxophone. Camwell is to be commended for his beautiful tone and excellent musicianship on this recording.
...a masterpiece CD consisting of saxophones playing Bach’s music...musical dancing bliss....
While doing research for my new documentary BACH & more friends, I came across the Bach-Centric CD. I fell in love with it immediately and knew Dave Camwell had to be a part of my new film. Dave's playing and the ensemble work of the Oasis group is Bach performed at its highest level.
...The accuracy and integrity of the music is of the highest standard...Not only is the virtuosity of the performance of any given lines brilliant, but the skill of playing each of these lines separately, yet so accurate as to create a single unified sound. It is one instrument, one musician, one glorious piece masterfully composed both by Bach and by Camwell...This is a delightful album, extremely well performed. Don't just consider this for your collection, but tell your friends. Bach-it-Forward!
Saxophonist Camwell, comfortable in both the jazz and classical idioms, takes the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and makes it come alive...delights and soothes the mind. The beauty and gentleness of works such as "Little Fugue in G Minor" and "Concerto in F" (movement 3), both tracks that feature Camwell on all parts, are joyous. Classical music for saxophone, either original or transcribed, is nothing new yet "Bach-Centric" is fresh and entertaining.
...a fascinating spatially-separated examination of Bach’s clever counterpoint. The seven-minute opening movement of the famous Harpsichord Concerto in d minor features all four of the guest saxists joining Camwell for a rich and exciting sound.
...beautiful and exciting...Well-made and well-played all the way around...
